CANCELLED: February Fono

With the number of apologies received from members, it has been decided to CANCEL THE FEBRUARY FONO. Many, MANY apologies to YOU for the late notice.

For people who may now have a couple of hours spare tomorrow night, may we suggest Venus Stephens’ opening of her SOFT MAD CHILDREN exhibition at The Basement, Lower Greys Avenue, Auckland CBD.

The Banana Boat shall break this South Auckland hoodoo and meet there NEXT MONTH, gosh darn it.

January 2011 Fono

Fakaalofa lahi atu
Malo e lelei
Kia orana
Tena koutou
Ni sa bula
Taloha ni
Talofa lava

Welcome to the after-match report from Banana Boat’s first fono for 2011.

Present

– were GRANT BAYLEY, ERIC SMITH, LEILANI UNASA, GERALDINE WARREN, and DAVID MAMEA.

Apologies

– were received from a very busy CHETAN PATEL, a globetrotting LOUISE TU’U and an unwell JENNI HEKA.

Banana Boat Business

Big ups to Maureen Fepulea’i whose play Ono Tama’i Pato was a 2010 Adam New Zealand Play Award shortlistee. Maureen survived a Newbies Workshop run in Manukau last year.

News to Use

Poets Robert Sullivan and Courtney Meredith are running a Writing Workshop at the Fresh Gallery in Otara on FRIDAY 11 FEBRUARY.

Coming Up

The Playmarket and Banana Boat Creative Clinics are back and they want to take YOU and YOUR PLAY to the next level. The deadline for submitting your play is FRIDAY 18 FEBRUARY.

The Newbie Writers Workshop is also back: TUESDAY 8 MARCH at The Edge in Auckland CBD. Best register quick to secure a place.

Script Reading

GRANT and LEILANI each shared a monologue they’ve been tinkering with lately.

GRANT’s My Friend Jack and LEILANI’s Girlville couldn’t be more different – each piece engaged those listening and initiated lengthy discussion. We look forward to their presentations out in the world!

Next Fono

– will be on THURSDAY 24 FEBRUARY 2011 at the MANGERE ARTS CENTRE, Corner of Orly Avenue and Bader Drive, Mangere Town Centre. This will be Banana Boat’s first fono south of Grey Lynn – long overdue and, we hope, the first of many.
